Social Activity Done By Rajasthan Patrika

Tuesday, September 5th, 2006
The identity, reputation and prestige of an organization depend not only on its professional success but also on the way it maintains values, preserves ideals and contributes to social development. Tested by this touchstone for exemplary work Rajasthan Patrika has proved its worth beyond doubt and has even excelled itself. Soon after Mr. Karpoor Chandra Kulish launched the newspaper he made it clear to his colleagues that he would also use the paper as an instrument for social change and for the alleviation of social problems. He expressed his resolve to work relentlessly towards the accomplishment of this goal. It was on account of this resolve of the founder that Rajasthan Patrika has not only fulfilled its social responsibilities but it has set an example for emulation by others.

Patrika has played an important role in enriching values and ideals which society always yearns for. It has continued to publish books on varying aspects of our glorious cultural heritage and universal values even since it saw the light of the day. The Patrika Group has looked after this materialistic aspect very well. It has been in the forefront of the humanitarian work. It explored various strategies to rush humanitarian aid to the largest number of the victims of natural calamities or the people languishing in poverty. The establishment of Jan Mangal Public Charitable Trust in 1984 was a milestone in this direction. Patrika made a great endeavour to rush help to the people of Maharashtra and Gujrat when they were hit by the most disastrous earthquakes in Indian history. It didn’t lag behind when the entire state of Orissa was invaded by the cyclonic destruction. The sight of the wailing uprooted inhabitants of this unfortunate state melted even stony hearts. Patrika mobilized support for the people of this state and rendered yeoman service. It came to the rescue of the war widows whose husbands died in the Kargil war. Patrika itself contributed a large amount and campaigned for public awareness who responded generously. As a result the afflicted families were saved from another disaster that loomed large in their minds after the death of their members.

Most notable among its crusades against suffering was its campaign for the donation of a handful of grain (muthibhar anaaj) by every citizen when the continuous spell of drought in Rajasthan pushed millions of its people to the brink of starvation. Patrika called upon students to bring handfuls of grain to its office. The campaign electrified the student community and the general masses in the entire state who flocked to Patrika Offices in various cities and created heaps of grain. Patrika sent trucks loaded with the bags of grain to the areas where people were dying. It was a new value Patrika inculcated and showed the people the way to help the needy. What generated the tremendous enthusiasm was its slogan ‘bacha bacha Bhamashah’ i.e. every child is Bhamashah, the legendry philanthropist of Mewar who donated every penny to his people. Thus Patrika rose above the narrow familial boundaries and considered the entire humanity as its own.

Besides organizing sports events, social and cultural festivals, Patrika also undertook the challenging task of publishing important books and that of helping the educational institutions or enriching libraries. It organized many adventures or helped NGOs who initiated such projects as inculcated the spirit of courage among kids or youths. It was never motivated by considerations of fickle fame but thinking that social concerns and human values deserve utmost attention, it fulfilled its obligations to society in the spirit of selfless dedication. When the Indian Army was sent to the borders to face the threat of war from Pakisthan, Patrika sent adventurous youths on motorcycles to the snowy valleys to ‘ boost the soldiers‘ morale with auspicious messages of good wishes and greetings. When Patrika realized that common ordinary citizens encounter great difficulties in getting their legitimate problems solved everyday on account of bureaucratic redtapism, it started a helpline and called upon the people of the state to write to Patrika about their problems and grievances. Patrika fought for their cause by taking the issues to the departments concerned and saw that their grievances were redressed.

Hundreds of retired Govt. employees or ordinary citizens have benefited from this initiative. Not only this Patrika came forward to help the people of a particular region to get their problems solved. The response was overwhelming and the bonds of love for Patrika grew stronger.

Everyone in India had heard that Vedas had in them an ocean of wisdom but since they were written in Sanskrit ordinary people remained ignorant about them, Patrika’s founder editor Mr. K.C. Kulish began to study them and wrote a series of books in simple language and thus brought the Vedic wisdom within the reach of the ordinary people.

The voluminous book entitled SHABD VED which Mr. Kulish compiled after years of hard work is a living testimony to Patrika’s contribution to enrichment of values and preservation of our cherished ideals.

Mr. Karpoor Chandra Kulish, the founder of Rajasthan Patrika, throughout his life as a journalist, tried to fulfill social commitments to a large extent and till date Patrika is following his footsteps. Rajasthan Patrika has always worked for the betterment of society. It showed kindness towards birds and animals, it encouraged talented people from every field and worked hard to bring the hidden talent to limelight. Jan Mangal Kalyan Charitable Trust was set up which played a very important role in encouraging the people from the field of sports and social work. It either helped them from its own resources or raised donations for the budding talents. Rajasthan Patrika has left a noticeable mark in the field of publication. It has worked hard to make people more knowledgeable.

Patrika has always been ahead for public service and in this field it has organized many Learning License camps for the common people. Patrika has always showed its keen interest in the field of public health and in this direction it has organized several Blood Donation Camps which has turned out to be a huge success. Being a newspaper Rajasthan Patrika has always fulfilled its duty to make the people of Rajasthan aware of their rights. In this regard Patrika did a campaign in which the reporters traveled all over Rajasthan and tried their level best to make the people aware of their right to vote. The people appreciated this gesture and gave their full corporation. Patrika has even organized many cultural events. Patrika every year organize a Book Fair in public interest. This fair is organized in a large scale where people can find books on all subjects and beside that people also enjoyed the cultural programme. Recent addition to the list is the Health Fair organized by Rajasthan Patrika. This fare got a lot of appreciation from the masses and people from far and near participated in the fair and satisfied their quarries related to health. Rajasthan Patrika not only plays the role of a newspaper but also the role of a social reformer.

Overview of Rajasthan Patrika Jaipur Daily News Paper

Tuesday, September 5th, 2006

Rajasthan Patrika introduce  as a pioneer in the development of ‘Journalism in Rajasthan‘. Rajasthan Patrika is one of the largest daily Hindi newspaper of the Indian sub-continent and the top most newspaper of the state of Rajasthan. The rise of Patrika from a local quarter size double-sheet evening daily (1956) to a full-fledged sixteen page newspaper, commanding a Rajasthan-wide circulation of over TEN LAKH is a saga of trials, travails and tribulations faced by its founder, proprietor, and editor Shri Karpoor Chandra “KULISH” with unflinching courage, tenacity and perseverance. The idea of starting a daily newspaper originated in his mind while he was working on the editorial staff of Rashtradoot, then a prominent Hindi daily. Within five year of his working with Rashtradoot, Shri Kulish began to realize the need of an independent newspaper, free from political affiliations and proclivities and devoted to the problems, hopes and aspirations of the people of Rajasthan as a whole.

Although the task of starting a newspaper from a scratch appeared to be with many difficulties, particularly of finance, Shri Kulish resolved to embark upon this venture with grit and determination. For this purpose, he took a leave of three months from his job and discussed the project with some of his trusted and experienced friends. He toured all over Rajasthan for this purpose.

The encouragement and response he got from his well-wishers ultimately resulted in launching of PATRIKA in March 1956, with a borrowed capital of Rupees Five Hundred. Day by day Patrika began to gain increasing popularity due to its honest, selective and detailed coverage of local news and highlighting of the problem and matter of topical interest to entire Rajasthan. After a regular publication of three months, the State as well as Central Government approved Patrika for publication of their advertisements. Today Patrika is simultaneously published from major cities of Rajasthan viz. Jaipur, Jodhpur, Bikaner, Udaipur, Kota, Sikar, SriGanganagar, Bhilwara, Alwar, Ajmer, Ahmadabad, Bangalore and also from Surat. the industrial capital of South India. Hence today the company has a number of publications, which are being appreciated by the masses. Patrika figured among the top five successful Asian Community Newspaper in a survey conducted by AMIC, Singapore for UNESCO and among the top ten most read daily newspapers of India.

History of Rajasthan Patrika Jaipur News Paper

Tuesday, September 5th, 2006
The journey of Rajasthan Patrika from a local quarter size double-sheet evening daily to a full- fledged sixteen page newspaper started in 1956. The dream of commanding a Rajasthan wide circulation of over four hundred forty thousand was given the form of reality by the founder, proprietor and editor Shri Karpoor Chandra “KULISH” who is the epitome of unflinching courage, tenacity and perseverance. The idea of starting daily newspaper originated in his mind while he was working for Rashtradoot, a prominent newspaper of that time. The other two hindi dailies Lokvani (1946-1965) and a Navayug (1955-1963), during that time Delhi based newspapers dominated the redearship of Rajasthan due to their better resources and wide coverage of news. While working for Rashtradoot Kulishji realised the need of an independent newspaper free from political affiliations and devoted to the problems, hopes and aspirations of the people. With the help and encouragement of his well wishers, Kulishji ultimately launched Rajasthan Patrika. The success of any daily newspaper has to be measured in terms of numbers of its editions, its circulation and the revenue it generates from the market. Rajasthan Patrika on this count right from its inception has not only come out with flying colours but has achieved landmarks on several occasions and has to its credit several achievements in making history in the newspaper journalism. The figures themselves tell the history of such spectacular development of the newspaper that is no less than a miracle: 15 editions with a readership crossing in a short span of fifty years. To have a feel of this success story one has to look back at the fifty years of amazing journalism that Rajasthan Patrika has to its credit.1956-1965
The magnificent role the newspaper played in the public agitation with regard to establishing the Jaipur bench of the Rajasthan High Court by way of its powerful editorials including playing up the cause by publishing news stories and reviews of the public opinion earned the laurels of the people apart from earning the credibility of its ever increasing readership. This was crucial and rewarding also. The image of the newspaper went up in the eyes of the masses. The circulation increased by leaps and bounds and in 1964 i.e. Patrika became a morninger.

1965-1975
By the third Vidhan Sabha (Assembly) Election in Rajasthan, the journalistic expertise that included unbiased and objective reporting along with analytic reviews and articles added four thousand copies to its ever growing circulation. 1966 saw the introduction of the new German Printing Machine that awarded one additional column in the seven column page. The honest objective and right analysis of the 1967 Vidhan Sabha (Assembly) Election made by Rajasthan Patrika again proved what it projected to be correct which led to its future approach in the hearts of the people. The credibility factor was rewarded in the form of an increase of circulation to 10,000 copies. At the same time the newspaper got the membership of Audit Bureau of Circulation (ABC) which helped in boosting the revenue side thus making the newspaper economically stronger. Steep increase in the number of ads, quality printing and journalistic expertise including vast coverage of rural Rajasthan resulted in a runaway success which was proved in 1977 when its circulation crossed 30,000 copies. The development continued unabated when circulation crossed 24000 in 1974, 26000 in 1975 and 33000 in 1976.

1975-1979
During the dark days of emergency from 1975 to 1977 Rajasthan Patrika played its glorious role which will be written in golden words in the history of journalism. When the famous national dailies started crawling in front of the powerful, congress leaders of the Government, Rajasthan Patrika without any fear carried on the crusade for journalistic freedom. This caught the imagination of the people, Rajasthan patrika became the newspaper of the Masses. By the end of emergency the circulation figure went up to 53000 and in a short span of three month the circulation shot up to 75000. The emergency thus proved to be a boon for the development and progress of Rajasthan Patrika.

1979-1997
After the emergency the publishing of the newspaper started from new premises at Kesargarh, where in nearly 15 months a history was created when the figure crossed one lac while Patrika launched its first Jodhpur Edition in 1981 and with the starting of Udaipur Edition a new milestone was achieved. All the three editions got the national awards for printing and designing. In March 1986 Kota Edition and in August 1987 Bikaner Edition were added to the newspaper. Patrika’s grand success continued and increased day by day. In 1995 National Readership Survey (NRS - 1995) showed that an astounding 84.68% (27.42 Lac readers) of the Hindi Newspaper readers in urban areas of Rajasthan read Rajasthan Patrika.

1997 Onwards
In 1997 Rajasthan Patrika readership continued to soar high and touched 10 million mark by 2000. In the year 2000 the new editions at Bhilwara, Sikar, Sriganganagar were started. On 11th August 2002 Ahmedabad Edition and on 28th October Ajmer Edition and in the year 2003 Surat Edition were added in the list. This was not an easy job but it was made easy by the capable employees of Rajasthan Patrika. Its march onward continues and many more achievements in the field of journalism await it.
